In ancient greek mythology muses were goddesses or spirits that inspired creation of literature and the arts. In more modern times an artist takes their favourite and/or most skilled/talented model as their muse, sometimes for a few months or sometimes many years, this becomes the person they do a significant body of work with as creative inspiration flows freely in both directions due to a compatability in artistic temperament and intent. An artist may have several muses in the course of time and a model may be muse to several artists also (though usually only one at any one time).
